Silicones (found in nature as silicates in sand) are polymers with unique properties and are used in many personal care products. It is preferred to be used in cosmetic sector because it provides lubrication and gives a feeling like silk on the skin. Silicones also act as skin protectors, thinners, film formers, moisturizers, thickeners and emulsifiers.
Silicones (dimethicone is one of the most well-known) with different names are transformed into many different formulations to fulfill the specific role of waterproofing, protecting moisture, retaining color pigments, protecting our hair and providing smoothness. In this way, it appears as a chemical showing synthetic properties in the cosmetic sample.
What makes silicone so valuable by the manufacturer? What are the damages to the consumer?
Let's try to find the answers to these questions.
Silicone is found in many products on the market because cosmetic companies prefer because of the costs. Silicone adds shine and fullness to the hair, adhering to the outer shell of the hair. This may cause irritation of the mucosa as a result of the use of silicon-containing products, preventing the penetration of useful oils and nutrients into other products used in the hair due to clogging of the surface layer of the hair, causing hair loss, breakage and loss!
Silicones, which not only harm human beings, also harm nature.
Since some of these synthetic cosmetic additives have been found to pose a risk of asthma, allergies, skin rashes and skin, breast, uterine and ovarian cancer after long-term contact, this issue has been examined by health institutions and consumer bodies all over the world in recent years.
Especially companies that want to offer safe cosmetic products to their customers now start to produce silicone-free products and declare them. Here, customers need to address this issue and, if necessary, ask the companies for reports of these products.
